Renters Insurance
Many people incorrectly assume that the apartment complex owner’s insurance will cover tenant possessions. You will need to have your own insurance coverage to protect against loss to your possessions.

This coverage is fairly inexpensive, and is available to qualified applicants through many other well-known companies. The coverage package typically available provides coverage for your possessions against fire, theft, water damage and several other perils, plus additional living expenses and liability protection.

Other key items to consider, should you already have coverage, are:

  • Do you have adequate records to substantiate your loss, safely stored off-premises? A household inventory list can be vital in recalling all of the items that may have been lost.
  • Photographs and/or video tapes can be very beneficial in documenting items that existed prior to the loss. Be sure to store these items away from the premises.
  • Make sure you have enough coverage for your possessions. Don’t forget to adequately increase your limits of coverage should you make a major purchase, such as expensive furniture, electronic equipment, or other expensive items.
  • Do you have the right kinds of coverage?
  • Know who your agent and insurance company are as they can provide a great deal of assistance in a traumatic time, once notified.
